919Raleigh Write-Up: Ancillary* Fermentation

919 Raleigh logo

We stopped by Ancillary Fermentation. Their concept of fermentation experience is centered on the idea that beer should be more experimental, more experiential, and a hell of a lot more fun. We love the space! It is in an old bank located at 1420 Hardimont Road in Raleigh.

Here's our list of the Triangle's best outdoor restaurants, breweries and patio bars

The News & Observer logo

As we do each year, the News & Observer has compiled a Triangle-wide collection of some of our favorite outdoor spots… One of the Triangle's newest and funkiest beer gardens, Ancillary* Fermentation has opened its first taproom in an old bank in North Raleigh. Picnic tables line the former drive thru, where instead of envelopes of cash, bartenders slip pints of nationally acclaimed beer.

Now, they have a permanent location called The Branch located in a defunct bank (1420 Hardimont Road just off Wake Forest Road). But the cool thing is, it still looks and feels like a bank - you can drink at the teller window/bar or in the conference room or in their outdoor space. Stop by soon and make a “withdrawal”...

Ancillary Fermentation makes Caña Magazine's Best Craft Beer Artwork list

For Ancillary* Fermentation, 2019 was about more than simply the artwork that adorned their beers. Their experiential pop-up taprooms delivered new levels of experience to the world of craft beer; and 'flavour tripping' on synsepalum dulcificum in an old historic chapel was the exemplar of their singular modus operandi. The artwork of this fruited sour deserves its place in the upper echelons of beer design, but the avant garde experimentalism that came with its launch truly set this Raleigh craft brewer apart.

#9 in Best New Brewery: Ancillary* Fermentation

Ancillary* Fermentation isn't a conventional brewery; it's a “pop-up fermentation experience” celebrating the experimental side of craft beer. Each month, the brewers host a pop-up taproom to launch a single beer in a location somewhere in the Triangle.
